Court & Equipment Quiz
Court dimensions, net heights, ball specs, paddle rules: the physical layer of pickleball has more precise numbers than most players suspect — including a net that is not the same height all the way across. Test yourself on Section 3 of the 2026 USA Pickleball Official Rulebook.

What this quiz covers
The equipment questions cover the facts that settle setup arguments. The court: a 20-by-44-foot rectangle, the same for singles and doubles, with the non-volley zone extending 7 feet from the net on each side — lines included in the zone. The net: 36 inches at the sidelines, lower at center, which is why "36 inches high" across the full width is a false statement and a favorite trick question. The ball: approved balls work indoors and out, a single color, smooth surface, with a slight seam ridge allowed. The paddle: surface, size and reflectivity rules that decide what is tournament-legal.
These cards are the quiz's foundation layer — the answers are short, factual and absolute, which makes them deceptively missable at speed.
Why the numbers matter
Most equipment disputes happen off the rulebook: a net strung tight at 36 inches in the middle, a temporary court chalked a foot short, a garage-sale paddle nobody checked. Knowing the actual specifications is the difference between playing pickleball and playing something pickleball-shaped — and in tournaments, equipment compliance is checked before you ever serve. The quiz keeps the numbers honest, one true/false card at a time.
Sample questions from the quiz
True or false — straight from the deck:
"The court must be a rectangle measuring 20 feet (6.10 m) wide and 44 feet (13.41 m) long." · "The net is 36 inches high across the full width of the court." · "The non-volley zone (NVZ) extends 7 feet (2.13 m) from the net on each side." · "Some approved pickleball balls are restricted to indoor play only." · "A pickleball ball may have a slight ridge at the seam."
Common questions
How high is a pickleball net?
36 inches at the sidelines, and lower at the center — which is why a net described as 36 inches across its full width is incorrectly strung. The court itself is a 20-by-44-foot rectangle for both singles and doubles.
How big is the kitchen?
The non-volley zone extends 7 feet from the net on each side of the court, and its lines are part of the zone — a ball or foot on the line is in the zone.
